Jane Schlegel
Director of Marine Operations
What brand(s) do you work for? Camping World What attracted you to this job? My background has been in the marine industry for 14 years, and I was looking to get an opportunity to learn more than one industry. Then Camping World reached out. While, yes, I’m still doing marine, I’m also learning a lot about a large dealer network retailer and learning a lot about RVs. What do you find fulfilling about working here? I find enjoyment in the fact that I do work with a multitude of people with different backgrounds and locations. Each of our stores is unique yet the same, so it’s a great opportunity to learn about the dealership and retail side and their strategies. I also get a lot of fulfillment in doing something new and bringing marine to market through the Camping World locations. Taking a very well-known and strong leader in the RV industry and bridging over to marine, I find it to be a great opportunity to be a disrupter to a very traditional marketplace. What are some of your biggest motivators at work? I definitely have a lot of intrinsic motivation because we’re bringing a boat to market that is a high-quality product at a lower cost than other options out there. And again, that comes down to our product strategy that I initiated and worked on for many years before we could bring it into the market like we have.
I’m also a firm believer in the outdoor lifestyle. I want to promote it and want more families to get the opportunity to get outdoors. I love boating and love the fact that your iPad doesn’t work out there and you don't have good cell service. I think it’s a great opportunity for more families to get out there and enjoy that time together. What makes Camping World unique or different than others you’ve worked for?I appreciate the experience and structure of Camping World. We’re a large company, but I always feel like I can just reach out to another person for help. Everyone is very approachable and easy to work with. I don’t ever worry that I'm not going to have the help or support I need to get the work done, help our customers, and help each other. What compels you to stay?Well, my work is not done yet. I have to get these boats out all over the place, thousands of them. What's your Myers-Briggs personality type?Commander & Architect
Interestingly, I can be both an ENTJ (commander personality) and an INTJ (architect personality)—I test right on the verge of either of the two most uncommon personality types. The “E” for extroversion and “I” for Introversion are the characteristics changing for me depending on the situation I’m in or the role I have at work.
